Praia do Ribeiro do Cavalo is arguably the most stunning “wild” beach in the Setúbal region. Tucked away at the foot of the limestone cliffs of the Arrábida Natural Park (Serra da Arrábida), it is famous for its breathtaking turquoise water that looks almost neon on a sunny day. With its pristine white sand and dramatic rock formations, it feels more like a secluded cove in Southeast Asia than a beach in mainland Europe.
This is a true paradise for those seeking untouched beauty and a sense of adventure. There are no facilities here—no bars, no lifeguards, and no umbrellas—just the sound of the Atlantic and an unforgettable view.
Important for Bike Travelers! ⚠️ Reaching this “Eden” on wheels is impossible. The final part of the journey involves a steep, rugged trail with a significant elevation change.
-
The Bike: You will likely need to leave your bike locked at the top of the cliff. If you decide to take it down to the water, be prepared to carry it on your back through narrow, rocky, and sometimes slippery paths.
-
Gear: Descending in cycling shoes with cleats is dangerous and not recommended. We highly suggest bringing a pair of sneakers or hiking boots for this section.
-
Tip: Allow about 20–30 minutes for the descent and a bit more for the climb back up.
